About Us
Welcome to East Prairie Métis Settlement
Founded in 1939, East Prairie Métis Settlement is a vibrant northern Alberta community located within Big Lakes County, approximately 168 km east of Grande Prairie and 40 km south of High Prairie.
Home to nearly 1,000 residents across 33,444 hectares, East Prairie is a community rooted in Métis culture, tradition, and connection to the land. Hunting and traditional harvesting remain an important part of community life, alongside a diverse economy supported by forestry, oil and gas, transportation, and construction.
With essential community infrastructure, local services, and a dedicated team of Métis Wildland Firefighters, East Prairie continues to grow while preserving the traditions and values that make it home.
